Matthew 18:21-35 (As built; Amite #275; 9-17-17)

“Complain… (Complaining…”)
… It’s the 1960’s… and his name is Fouler… he lives in Orange, NJ… he is one of three children… he is the youngest! His mom is a secretary and his dad is a technical writer… he writes specs, instructional guides, etc… and if you were to ask his parents how would they describe fouler/him, they would tell you that trouble follow him… he was a hellion! They knew that he needed to do something, but when he lit his sisters tree house on fire… it was time to do something… the fact she may have been in the tree house, is debatable… well, their work had them move to southern California… and the family was hoping against hope, that something would change him… and it did… he had decided to take part in a play, called… the Sound of Music… and it changed him… Fouler began to become more involved in school… his folks always knew that he was bright but little did they know that he would end up the co-valedictorian of his class.. and when he graduated, Fouler thought he wanted to be a comedian… but when he was rejected by the Gong Show…he knew this was not the way to go… so he tried out for a play called… A long days journey… and then it seemed the world opened up… the played a part in ‘Elvis & Nixon…’ which was so-so… then Fouler hit pay dirt in , ‘Pay it Forward…’ I don’t know if you know this… but Fouler, plays a very good bad person… he just has the knack for playing the villain… sinister to say the least… his lines seems like he chops them up, they seem to be cut short… but yet his part in the movie ‘Seven’ was quite good, then he took a part in the ‘Negotiator…’, he played in Superman returns, American Beauty and the Usual Suspects… yes you know…. As Kevin Spacey…. And you know what is amazing about this guy… is when you ask him about his mentor in the movie business, he will flat out tell you, Jack Lemmon… Jack told him, look there is no need to be jerk, angry, COMPLAINING all the time… you can be a good actor and a good person, they are not mutually exclusive…!
THE GOSPEL IS ALL ABOUT… COMPLAINING! Peter is questioning the Good Lord… how often do I have to forgive someone… up to Seven times…so from 1-7???? The Good Lord is quick to correct Peter… no Peter up to 77 times…. Remember my B & S in Christ…if you are a first century Jew… those numbers resonate with you… 7 Times is tied to the Cain and Abel incident… When Cain kills Abel, he brings with it… 7 years of additional concern… when Lamech, who is descendent of Cain kills someone, he adds 77 years of burden... If you are Daniel, the number 490 years, 7 times 77… is significant for it brings additional concerns for an additional 490 years… the point is simple, FORGIVENESS YOU RECEIVE FROM GOD, IS DIRECTLY PORPORTIONAL TO HOW MUCH YOU GIVE OUT… So I suggest that you do as many times as needed…including up to and including 490 years… and to make sure you understanding the debt issue between the two men… please know this… a days wage in these days is 1 denarii, you work a day, you get one coin, a denarii… you work 2 days 2 denarii… 365 for a whole year… if you get pain one talent… a gold coin… that is worth 6000 denarii… 6000 days of work… so if YOU OWE the king, 10000 TALENTS… you owe him, 60,000,000 days of work…that’s right 60 million days of work, which is equal to 166,000 years… THE DEBT IS OFF THE CHARTS… it is SO GREAT you can’t get there… but the KING is will to forgo the debt….yet the servant, goes to one of his servants… and begins to COMPLAIN… to choke him for 100 denarii…. 100 days … and throws him in jail…100 days to 160,000 years… see the problem!!!! … Remember too, in jail it was call debtors prison; most of those in jail… were there because of the debt they owed…not for capital offenses… if you committed a capital offense, you never made it to jail, per se…
THROUGHOUT SCRIPTURE… how many times, did people COMPLAIN IN SCIRPTURE…only to find out, if they had just remained silent… they would have gotten their answer, without all the COMPLAING attitude, words, etc… what if Thomas had NOT COMPLAINED about not seeing the Christ, we would never recognize him as the ‘doubter’… what if Martha and Mary had not COMPLAINED about Christ being late to cure their brother, only to have him rise within the hour of Christ showing up…. What if James and John and not asked to be at Christ’s left and right… what if they had waited to Christ was up on the Cross to ask HIM, Lord can we now be on your left and right… would they have even bothered to ask???
My B & S, how many times a day, an hour, a minute do you and I … COMPLAIN!!??? Did you know, that the average person in the US COMPLAINS…once every 15 min… they aint got nuthin on us here in Amite!!! I think we should change the constitution to… the right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of being able to COMPLAIN incessantly and for no good reason!! My B & S, we do SO MUCH, we don’t even recognize it any more... Do we COMPLAIN more than you say, thank you!!??... You are complaining too much…. Do we COMPLAIN more than we say; I love you… that must change!!! Do we COMPLAIN more than we compliment others… then my friends in Christ; we are imprudent, which is against a virtue and therefore, a sin…!!! My B & S, do you COMPLAIN about your family, spouse at work… visiting with others… children do you COMPLAIN about your parents at school… all these must STOP!!! When you and I COMPLAIN to others about our family, we have taken our dirty laundry out for others to see… and when we apologize to one another, we don’t go back to our friends, coworkers, fellow students and tell them it’s all good… hence, they still see our loved ones in a bad light!!! How many times have I heard people COMPLAIN about the weather…. It’s too hot, to muggy, to this, to that, it rains too much… My friends in Christ, we live in south La, there is only two types of weather, humid and less humid!!! How many times have people complained about the temperature in Church being wayyyy too cold… I have been here 6 years…if it’s too cold, where mittens, a scarf, a sweatshirt…. Look I have to wear 3 dresses on this altar, so ya just going to have to deal with it…. It’s hot up here!!!
My B & S, let’s try this…. let’s see just how good we are… at NOT complaining… When you walk out those Church doors, for one hour………………………………………ok, for 30 min………………………………………….ok, for 15 minutes you cannot … CANNOT COMPLAIN about anything… don’t justify it, by saying, …. ‘I’m just saying, or I’m just trying to explain…or be understood…if is NEGATIVE it’s a complaint…. For 15 min…no complaining..!!!
I leave you with this…. “Most people who COMPLAIN, enjoy it… as much as they enjoy, NOT doing nothing about it…!!!
Please, stop…complaining!!!
Amen
